What is a Muse?
muse (v.)
"to be absorbed in thought," mid-14c., from O.Fr. muser (12c.) "to ponder, loiter, waste time," lit. "to stand with one's nose in the air" (or, possibly, "to sniff about" like a dog who has lost the scent), from muse "muzzle," from Gallo-Romance *musa "snout," of unknown origin. Probably influenced in sense by muse (n.). Related: Mused; musing.
muse (n.)
late 14c., protectors of the arts, from L. Musa, from Gk. Mousa, lit. "muse, music, song," from PIE root *mon-/*men-/*mn- "to think, remember" (see mind (n.)). The names of the nine Muses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne (q.v.), and their specialties are traditionally: Calliope (epic poetry), Clio (history), Erato (love poetry, lyric art), Euterpe (music, especially flute), Melpomene (tragedy), Polymnia (hymns), Terpsichore (dance), Thalia (comedy), Urania (astronomy).

HUMUS
"Loving humility is marvelously strong, and strongest of all things, and there is nothing like it."
Fyodor Dostoyevsky
What is humus? Humus is the 'life force' of the soil. Humus is the decayed vegetable matter and leaf matter that has been broken down completely. In fact humus is the organic matter that has reacted to the point of stability. The same root for humus gives rise to the word humility. It is in humility that truth can take root. And the revelation of truth is what leads to freedom.
Why talk about 'humus' on the 365 project blog. Because it takes humus to start new projects!!!
In Dan Millers book, 48 Days to the Work You Love. I found a compelling story about a man who found great growth in humility. "It's interesting to note that the same root word for humus gives rise to the word humility, explaining that the "humiliating" events of my life, the events that leave "mud in the face" may be the fertilizer in which something new and great can grow." He goes on to say that his business crashed and he owed more than $100,000 in personal debt. The humble experience rooted his thinking and understanding of business. Today he is debt free i a nontraditional business and makes far more income that before the humiliating experience. "It is usually in the midst of muck and mess that the conditions for rebirth are being created."
I LOVE THAT HIS UNDERSTANDING OF A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS WAS ROOTED IN HUMILITY!!!
Humility defined by the dictionary is modesty, lacking pretense, and not believing that you are superior to others. Humility essentially means from the earth. It does not mean humiliation or shame.
Jim Collins, in his book, Good to Great --- says that level 5 leadership directs their ego away from themselves and leads the company to greatness.
There is great power in humility. It gives us permission to move forward with clarity. A virtue that will transform our businesses and our lives.

Ebay Wholesale Etsy Retail
wow!!! listening to the marketplace --- my eyes are opened!!!
I put a batch of lovely lace on esty for a low, low wholesale price and
lo and behold the buyer ask for a couple of yards (wouldn't know what to
do with the rest!) Then it dawned on me - eBay is Wholesale
etsy is Retail.
Could it be that eBay is the east coast market and etsy is the west coast market in the mid-1800's? If so, that is where I am steering my Clippership.
Happy learning!!! Nan
